Kibosh Router Emergency Recovery Step by Step Windows.

Detailed instructions for Windows PC.

First, you need to set a static IP on the PC you’ll be working from:

1. Click here to download Putty client.
2. Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the Kibosh router’s LAN port, and the other end into your PC NIC
3. Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center
   • Select Change Adapter Settings
   • Right-click on the Ethernet adapter plugged into the Kibosh Router, and choose Properties
     • This will bring up Ethernet Properties (see Image #1)
     • Select Internet Protocol Version 4
       • Properties
       • Enter the numbers as shown in Image #2
       • Ok to save

Now proceed with the instructions below.

Emergency recovery procedure.

1. Unplug the router, and plug it in. This will reboot it.
   1. Wait a few seconds until the “sys” led (the star next to the power button) lights up, then press and hold the reboot button until the “sys” led (the star) starts blinking very rapidly
      1. TIP: when yo u put the power back on the star will light up, but then go out – wait for it to come back on, and then hold the WPS button and star will start flashing very rapidly – at this point proceed
2. Open Putty and type in the info shown in Image #3, and click Open to connect
3. This will pop up a dos windows, and you will see a login screen, and a prompt
   1. At the prompt run “mtd -r erase rootfs_data” The router should then reboot, and be reset to original factory settings.
      1. NOTE: The ‘erase’ process only take a minute or two. The N600 model sometimes needs to be manually rebooted after about 5 minutes if it does not reboot inside of 2 min.
4. After the reset – switch back from Use the following IP address, to Obtain an IP address automatically (see image # 2)
   1. At this point, assuming the Kibosh Router Internet port is connected to your ISP router via Ethernet cable, you should be on the Internet.
5. Download the latest firmware for your router from here.
6. Log into the Kibosh Router at http://192.168.10.1 using the password ‘password‘
   1. Go to System > Update Firmware
      1. Browse the the file you just downloaded
         1. Do not try to preserve settings
      2. Upgrade now
      3. Wait about 4 minutes to finish
   2. Log back in at http://192.168.10.1
      1. Enter your KRMU ID / Connectivity Code: [labeled under your Kibosh device] (all caps)
      2. Set Time Zone
      3. Save Changes
   3. Optional: Go to Connection > Basic, and enable 5Ghz WiFi

That’s it, your Kibosh Router has been reset to factory, and upgraded to the latest firmware release. This should resolve all issues you’ve been having.
