How to prevent the creation of guest accounts on Android devices
On Android devices the main account has Admin rights and allows creating new user accounts and guest user accounts. These accounts if created and used would bypass any parental controls.
To prevent this we will need to do the following 3 steps:
- Eliminate the guest profile
- Password protect the main account
- Create a new user profile for your child and install Kibosh there
STEP ONE: Eliminate the guest profile
- Swipe down the Notification bar and tap the User icon .
- Tap on the Guest user to change to the Guest account.
- Swipe down the Notification bar and tap the User icon again.
- Tap on Remove Guest .
- Once you have returned to the main user, swipe down again the Notification bar and tap the User icon and choose More settings .
- Make sure the Add user when device is locked is toggled off.
STEP TWO: Password protect the main (administrator) account
- Go to Settings and choose to Screen lock.
- Choose the PIN or Password option to either add a numeric PIN or an Alphanumeric Password.
- Choose require PIN/Password to start device option.
- Add the desired PIN/Password.
STEP THREE: Create a new profile for non-administrator user (i.e., the kids account)
- Swipe down the Notification bar and tap the User icon .
- Choose More settings .
- Tap on Add user .
- Choose to add a User and on the next screen tap OK
- Choose to Set up the user now , this will switch to the new user.
- Tap on Continue .
- Let your child sign up with his Google Account and finish up the configuration steps.
- Install Kibosh...
