Device Naming

This is where you can assign a friendly name and IP to the devices on your network for easy identification and management. You should only need to do this once per device.

NOTE: You only need to do this on the devices you can’t already tell what they are. Android devices usually need to be renamed as per the example below.

How it works:

1. Go to Manage Device > Device Naming
2. Choose your device from Select From Currently Connected Hosts
   • It sometimes takes an hour or so before a device you just connected to the Kibosh Router will show up in the ‘Select from currently connected hosts’ drop down. If you do not see the device you want to name there, either wait longer or you can manually add it
     • To manually ad a device go to Connected Hosts and copy the MAC address
   • The device you choose from the drop-down will auto-fill in these fields:
     • Host Name: whatever you want, but you can only use letters and dashes
     • Host MAC:
       • The MAC will be listed on the Connected Hosts page also, in case you need to manually add it
     • Host IP:
       • Must be in the following format: 192.168.10.X
         • X can be any number between 1 – 254
           • No two devices can use the same Host IP, so use Connected Hosts to ensure the IP is not being used

Step by Step: Giving an Android device a friendly name

1.) Choose the device from Connected Hosts drop-down

This will populate the required fields.

NOTE: as you can see from the Connected Hosts drop-down most devices are already named good enough.

2.) Create a new friendly Host Name..

3.) Use the default Host IP (192.168.10.2) or enter a new one in the 192.168.10.x format

4.) Click Add

5.) Click Save

 

Now restart the device, and it will show up as carter-kindle with the IP of 192.168.10.2 in the Global Dashboard
